Balance the Books

by Alan Karre Jr

One of my favorite 2 year old colts this year is Balance the Books in which is owned by Klaravich Stables Inc. This company is known to be one of the best North American race contenders in which this year alone have raked in over 3 million in earnings. This particular  horse was won at auction in the Keeneland April sale for $160,000.00. Considering this horses pedigree I think the owners got a great deal in which he is the son of Lemon Drop Kid and also Seattle Slew is in this horses blood line.

The most recent race Balance the Books has been in was on the turf at Saratoga Aug 30th 2012. The horse was in last place coming around the turn when Balance the Books took off and caught up to then leader Joha and won by a head. Trained by Chad Brown and raced by with Julien Leparoux earned $120,000.00 on the day. In his previous race Balance the Books was unable to catch Craving Carats but had a slower time at 1:43 flat in which was improved in his 2nd race at 1:42.30.

In his next appearance he is predicted to race the¬†Pilgrim at Belmont Park which is planned to be raced Oct 7th 2012. Although it’s a tad bit early to talk about potential great Kentucky Derby horses this one is getting my nod assuming he is able to keep improving on his time and continues to show patience coming into the final turn.
